A video clip has surfaced online showing an awkward exchange between President Donald Trump and his wife, Melania, moments after they arrived in Israel (see below).
The Trumps landed in Tel Aviv on the morning of May 22, receiving a warm welcome from the Israeli government.
As they walked along the red carpet that had been rolled out over the tarmac, Mr. Trump can be seen reaching out to his wife to hold her hand.
Mrs. Trump appears to ignore the gesture for a second or two before swatting her husband’s hand away with a quick movement of her hand. The president then drops his hand back to his side and they continue walking.
One of the first people to note the odd moment was Niraj Warikoo of the Detroit Free Press, who uploaded the clip to Twitter.
“It appears First Lady Melania Trump slaps away Pres. Trump’s hand as he reaches to hold it while on tarmac in Israel,” Warikoo wrote.
A similar incident occurred during Trump’s inauguration ceremony in January, leading some to speculate that there is a lack of affection between the president and his wife.
Body language expert Patti Wood pointed out that Mrs. Trump seemed to be leaning away from her husband as they danced at the inaugural ball.
